Welcome to Darien Lake. Do not let the flowers and the small sign fool you, Darien Lake is anything but small. This amusement park is a land of numerous coasters from fast speeds to upside down to simply the highest of heights. The park is situated in Darien Center, New York and is the largest water and theme park in New York.
The park is spread out featuring a campground and on site lodging along with their water park and a stage to host performers. This stage has seen the likes of Luke Bryan, Dave Matthews Band and Goo Goo Dolls just to name a few.
I have never been one for coasters and heights but the children were all too excited to jump right in. The park has 11 thrill rides total. Their favorite at the Park was the Predator. This coaster is wooden and is a double out and back design. The coaster sits 95 feet tall and goes 50mph. Although it didn’t go up and down the 9 year old who had never done a coaster of this magnitude kept repeatedly going, it was a hit!
While watching the kids I toured the grounds eating snacks and drinking drinks. The weather was extremely warm and the refill souvenir cups offered at Darien Lake were a good deal at $1.25 refills throughout the entire park. There were also numerous air conditioned places to eat such as Subway, Pizza in the Square and the Anchor Bar to name a few.
The rides varied from kid friendly to the most adventurist in the group. The family rides at the park hold about 17 rides for the younger crew while 11 high thrill rides for those looking for a rush. The weather was so hot we enjoyed the wet rides, a total of three, but I was disappointed the one wet ride Grizzly Run I really wanted to do with the family was down that afternoon when we went to go on it. Since we couldn’t get wet with Grizzly Run we changed into our suits and hit the water park.
The water park was huge and housed numerous different action packed sites like the 2016 new release rip curl, the brain drain, tornado and Big Kahuna. There also was the wave pool of Crocodile Isle and many more! The wait time wasn’t too bad and there were plenty of seats to lay and catch rays while the kids tried them all.
This park should definitely be planned as a full day trip to truly enjoy all it has to offer. The tickets start at $29.99 for seniors and children under 48 inches and go to $38.99 for adults. The park admission includes though the music you may hear from the concerts being shown that day!! Parking is available at the park for a fee.
